Mick McCarthy is expected to field a weaker side for our visit. However, he may choose to field Kevin Doyle for match practice after a recent operation.

Wolves have plenty of depth with a lot of Football League experience so Danny Wilson will get a good test for his side ahead of Saturdays league match with Southend United.

Player to watch: Kevin Doyle

It really does depend on Mick McCarthy’s selection. It could be Kevin Doyle who had some good seasons with Reading. Andrew Surman, Andrew Keogh, Sam Vokes, Nenad Milija? are others of note.

Lescinel Jean-Francois was replaced before Half-Time at Oldham Athletic so Callum Kennedy could replace him.

Wilson will probably stick to the current formula.

Player to watch: The Midfield

This is a good opportunity for our players to show us what they’ve got. They did it versus Southampton and there’s no reason why we can’t go to Wolves and at least give them a good game.

Good performances from Jonathan Douglas, Anthony McNamee, J-P McGovern and Michael Timlin will make the difference for Town.

Played for Both Clubs

Two of Swindon’s successful youth system from the 1950’s departed Wiltshire for Wolves after good spells at the County Ground.

Both Bobby Woodruff and Ernie Hunt were members of ‘Bert’s Babes’ a group of young footballers who made the Town first team under Bert Head.

Woodruff played 180 league games for Swindon before a £35,000 move to Wolves in 1964. Before moves to Crystal Palace and Cardiff City.

Swindon born, Hunt was an England U-23 international during his career with his hometown club. He made 214 league starts scoring 82 goals for Swindon before a £40,000 switch to Molineaux in 1965.

After a successful loan spell Swindon spent £88,000 for Wolves forward Peter Eastoe in 1974. He would score 43 times in 91 league games before moving to QPR in a deal whic saw the return of Swindon legend Don Rogers to the County Ground.

Swindon spent £250,000 on Steve Bull’s partner in crime Andy Mutch but failed to re-create such success at Swindon. Whereas Wolves spend £1,000,000 on George Ndah in 1999. Sadly for Ndah his Wolves career was injury plagued and could only feature in 96 games over 7 years at the club.

Other players include Frank Talia, Paul Ince, Mark Walters and Ady Williams.

Meanwhile, Ted Vizard and Glenn Hoddle have managed both clubs and former Town manager Andy King had a brief spell as a player for Wolves in 1985.
