Swindon Town get a vital three points after beating Torquay United 1-0 at Plainmoor this afternoon.

Town started the game quickly and used the wings as per manager Paul Sturrock’s style of play. The pitch was bobbly and very slippery which as Sturrock noted, made it hard to keep the ball on the ground.

Both teams went into the half at 0-0. Referee Danny McDermid gave a controversial penalty on the 62nd minute after a push on Lee Peacock. As a result of this Peacock and Christian Roberts argued over who would take the spot kick.

Roberts went on to convert the kick giving Swindon a 1-0 lead which sent the travelling 1,400 Swindon fans into a frenzy.

Roberts who is aiming for 20 goals this season converted his third goal in successive games and leaves him with 6 on the season.

Torquay’s Lee Andrews hit the cross bar for Torquay late in the second half. Andrews was very unlucky to have a penalty appeal turned down on the 85th minute.

Town managed to hold on and got the vital 3 points, moving them back into the automatic promotion places. Torquay fans will go home dissapointed that they did not get atleast a point from the game. Torquay are now without a win in 9 league games.
