Swindon Town manager Paul Sturrock has said he has set a deadline of today for Andy Monkhouse to leave Swindon and for a new striker to join the club.

Speaking to the official website Sturrock stated he needs a yes or no from both players today to ensure that he still has a shot at signing a substitute.

Monkhouse joined Swindon in the summer from Rotherham United under former manager Dennis Wise but has spent a lot of his time injured. Monkhouse had recently been on loan to League 2 side Hartlepool United and had a very successful spell there. Monkhouse had made it clear he would love a permanent move to Danny Wilson`s side however the deal still needs to be completed.

Sturrock had been speaking to a Striker at a League 1 club who played in the Championship last season rumoured to be Luke Rodgers. Rodgers’ agent has said in the media that Rodgers does not fancy playing in League 2, however nothing has been made official yet by the player.

Sturrock wants both deals concluded today so he can look at other potential targets.

Monkhouse may not be the only player leaving the County Ground after telling the official website ‘a couple will come in and a couple will leave’.

A couple will leave alright – not so sure about a couple coming in.

With Evans injured I think it is a mistake letting “in-form” Monkhouse leave. he should be keeping a strong squad if Swindon are going to challenge for promotion.

He should give up on Rogers he would have signed by now if he was interested.

Well lunchtime has come and gone, perhaps you are keeping hold of him, although I very much doubt it 😉
