STFC: What Happens Now At Swindon Town?

Well another home game, another loss, What happens now? Do we continue on in the hope a win is just around the corner?, Or do we look at the bigger picture?

Change The Manager?

Well the obvious first option is to change the manager. The players clearly look as if they don’t want to play for Maurice Malpas which is a shame as the man is a great guy and very friendly however friendliness and being a great guy does not win football matches. It’s a results driven business and right now we aren’t getting results. Ian Holloway was rumoured to be at the game last night and at the Hereford Johnstone’s Paint Trophy match however theses reports have not been confirmed. Perhaps Holloway was just doing some free lance scouting if he was at these games.

Bring In Loan Players?

People blame the defence which has been shocking, perhaps Maurice Malpas delves into the loan market in the hope of finding the missing link at the back. Do we carry on as we have though, one thing we have lacked is consistency. Do we change again with some fresh faces keen to impress or do we carry on in the hope that things changefor the better soon.

Bring In A Defensive Coach

Obviously someone is working with the defenders now but do we need a dedicated man like John Blackley who was here with Paul Sturrock? Our defence has gone from being our best aspect of the team to the worst.

Town currently sit one point off relegation and 9 points off the play-offs which was the pre-season aim.

Just exactly what do we need to do to get out of this rut at home?

Its so easy to say ‘change the management’ but who do we get in place. We took a gamble on MM & Co it failed – we took a gamble on Glen Hoddle and look what happened we ended up in the Premiership.
I think it is not really possible for MM to turn things around he’s lost the crowd and possibly the changing room.
We need an experienced manager in my eyes as I believe we have the players but they lack leadership on and off the field.
Steve Cottrill has been mentioned – would a step down by MM to coach under Steve C be an option.
I can’t help thinking there is something there with MM but he just doesn’t have a way to put it over or lacks decision making on the fly during games.
