Swindon Town have kept their hopes of playing League One football next season alive with a 2-1 win at Scunthorpe this afternoon.

Swindon started off very slow with most of the possession early on belonging to the home team. Sloppy passes and giving away possession gave Scunthorpe the opening they needed. Scunthorpe’s Billy Sharp pounced on a ball and slammed it past Town keeper Rhys Evans to give the Iron an early and deserved 1-0 lead over the visitors.

With Town fans ears clutched to the radios back in Swindon praying for a win to give their team atleast a slight chance of staying in League One, There prayers were answered 18 minutes on when on loan midfielder Toumani Diagouraga was tripped by Andy Crosby in the penalty area.

The referee awarded a penalty and Trevor Benjamin slammed home the spot kick to bring the visitors level. Benjamin had told Andy Gurney that he was going to take the penalty and a good job too.

Ricky Shakes who fluffed a good chance of scoring against MK Dons on Saturday redeemed himself by scoring in the 39th minute to give Swindon the lead going into the 2nd half.

The second half remained scoreless although Scunthorpe pressed hard for an equaliser.

Other results around League One meant that although Town gained 3 valuable points today they still remain 3 points from safety behind Yeovil with three games to play.
