Swindon Town striker Christian Roberts has thanked former manager Iffy Onuora after winning the League 2 player of the month award.

Roberts spent most of last season injured and at the sporting chance alcohol rehabiliation centre after admitting having a problem with alcohol.

‘I’d like to thank Iffy (Onuora)for standing by me, when others might have chosen to rid themselves of the problem.’

Roberts who joined Swindon in 2004 from Bristol City admitted he used to show up at the County Ground then be out drinking until the Tuesday during an interview with the BBC.

Roberts has been rejuvinated this season scoring 2 goals in August and being praised by new manager Dennis Wise.

Roberts also went on to thank his current team mates and Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet for standing by him.
