Paul Sturrock Match Reaction

Swindon Town manager Paul Sturrock gives his verdict of the 3-0 loss at Stockport County this afternoon.

‘That was a passionless performance and Stockport showed exhuberance out there. I thought out back four were abysmal. When a back four plays like that it goes right through the team and we lost everything out there.

‘Ashley Westwood was a chance I took. He had been out for a few weeks but I needed to find out about some of the others, such as Patrick Noubissie.

‘Some players out there care more for themselves than the football club. I would like to think that some of the players will roll their sleeves up and appreciate what I have said to them in the changing room.

‘Ifil is out for a few games now and that leaves us to re-jig yet another back four. We don’t have a big squad and those players will be playing in the reserve game on Monday night to show

‘I would hand my pay packet back after that performance because the fans that came up here to support us deserve credit. My players have not earned their money today because players are playing for their places now. We cannot carry players any more.

‘At the end of the day the players are not doing the business on the pitch. Yes, there were too many positional changes in the second half but in hindsight it is very easy to say I picked the wrong team. I wanted to put an edge to the team and I will admit I made a mistake in selection.

‘I have told the players that they are playing for Swindon Town now. I want a reaction from the squad because players must want to earn the shirt. I will not race out and panic buy because we want our side to become hard to beat again. We are not passing the ball well and that needs to be rectified.

‘I want eleven players to show passion and commitment. There were eleven players out there who wanted it and they were in blue shirts.’

There was an update on Ady Williams, who is now set to undergo surgery in midweek on his knee injury.

‘We think he will have an operation in midweek which may well rule him out for the rest of the season,’

Honest words but lets some honest action this time – the last time we heard this type of talk (v’s Barnet) nothing much happened in the team selection the next week. I’m afraid at the moment Paul S is not doing his creditibilty much in my eyes. okay he is restricted with squad size and injuries, but thats the name of the game sometimes, and you deal with it. Because these idle threats of dropping players isn’t working, if anything its counter- productive it would appear. I think we need the type of passion, dare I mention it. Wisey gave, on and off the pitch.

Why did he not get morre loan players in earlier it is abit late looking now. Why are the players not motivated when we are still in the top 4, perhaps they haverun out of steam and peaked too early. I think people should give Roberts a break after all he is not the only striker not scoring.
