The relief and elation were visible for all to see amongst the Swindon Town fans and players as Swindon took a huge three points from Lincoln City at Sincil Bank on Sunday afternoon.

The atmosphere was electric from both sets of fans however it was the Lincoln fans that got the first cheer of the afternoon. Junior Mendes had several opportunities to put the home side ahead within minutes of the start but thankfully his shooting boots just weren`t with him. Unfortunately though, after only 13 minutes Swindon`s defence stood static as Mark Stallard managed to get the better of the whole of Swindon`s back line on his return to first team football and slotted past Phil Smith in the Swindon goal. The lead, however, only lasted four minutes.

Lukas Jutkiewicz showed everybody the reason why Everton were so keen on signing the youngster with first class control, trapping the ball and turning the defender with ease. The ball was sent across the box to the waiting Christian Roberts who tapped in from a couple of yards out.

Lincoln City came close to taking the second lead of the game with Junior Mendes inches away from connecting to a free kick conceded by the petulance of Sofienne Zaboub. It was Swindon however who managed to get the next goal. Debutant Barry Corr showed the Swindon fans what he could do as he picked up a deflected Jack Smith shot and drilled a low ball through the crowds and into the back of the net.

Swindon seemed to be in complete control and domination of the game, however a blip in concentration with 15 minutes to go allowed Mark Stallard to grab his second goal of the game. Stallard’s initial shot was blocked by Phil Smith, however, a lucky bounce gave Stallard a second attempt and he managed to bury the ball past Smith.

Tension was rising in the Swindon camp and nerves were showing. Lincoln were being allowed to keep pushing forward with more and more chances coming their way.

With seconds to go a Paul Green cross came into Swindon`s box, hearts were in mouths but Andy Nicholas managed to get to it just ahead of Stallard.

Referee Scott Mathieson put his whistle to his lips and it was all over. The only negative to come out of the game, Lukas Jutkiewicz`s huge swollen ankle – very concerning with Jutkiewicz looking in considerable pain yet still hobbling across the pitch to show his appreciation to the 499 travelling Swindon fans.

A nervy, yet enjoyable 3 points!
