Swindon Town almost cause a Capital One cup shock by overcoming a 2-0 deficit at the County Ground.

Swindon Town were almost equal favourites to Aston Villa heading into the match after Town`s giant killing exploits over the last 18 months. Sadly despite their best efforts, Town were to beaten 3-2 on the night.

Town enjoyed the majority of the possession in front of a packed house under the floodlights.

The teams were level until 30 minutes when Christian Benteke headed passed Town keeper Wes Foderingham to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Just nine minutes later Gabriel Agbonlahor would slam home a shot to the left of Foderingham increasing the deficit to 2-0 leaving Town shell shocked and sending the 3,500 Villa fans into raptures. A rare lead for a team that had only won one of its first nine games this season.

Agbonlahor showed his classiness by cupping his ears to boos around the County Ground, well done trying to wind up League One supporters.

Villa headed into half time 2-0 up and a giant killing was the last thing on Town fans minds. Many fans now hoped we would be able to minimise the onslaught.

After the break, Town look determined and after Di Canio took off Paul Benson and James Collins in place of Andy Williams and Miles Storey, things got exciting.

On 78 minutes and with Town managing to hold Villa to 2-0, there was hope, Miles Storey who made his first senior start against Stevenage on Saturday slotted home past Shay Given to make it 2-1 Villa.

Three minutes later the game would be turned on its head as Andy Williams crossed the ball into the box and Miles Storey did a clever flick to make it 2-2 sending the Town fans into hysterics.

Minutes later Town were barrelling down on Shay Given to just have a shot by Williams blocked which would have made it 3-2 Town. Sadly however on 90 minutes, Benteke would score his second of the match to end Town`s dreams of advancing to the last 8 of the Capital One Cup.

After the match Paolo Di Canio thanked the fans and indicated to the Villa fans that they would be relegated at the end of the season.

If only we got to extra time?. What a match. What a night.
