Jerel Ifil has ended his six association with Swindon Town by joining SPL outfit Aberdeen.

In that usual post-signiture address Ifil told the official Aberdeen Football Club website that ‘I am delighted to sign for Aberdeen’ and that he enjoyed the friendly against Hull City which earned him a permanent deal.

Ifil first joined Swindon way back in February 2003 when he joined on loan from Watford. He made his debut as a first half substitute for Adam Willis in the 1-1 draw with Barnsley (Danny Invincible scoring for Town and one Rory Fallon for Barnsley)

Two other loan spells followed during Swindon’s unsuccessful and heartbreaking Play-Off campaign (Ifil missed the latter stages of the season due to Watford commitments) but finally joined Town for £70,000 that summer of 2004.

Ifil soon became an integral part of the Swindon Town first team – when on form ‘The Beast’ was easily one of the most popular players with the fans.

However, Town found themselves in League Two within a couple of years after almost making the Championship but Ifil remained a first team regular and his hard worked was rewarded when he scored a bullet header on the final day of the 2006/07 season that secured promotion for Town.

After that Ifil’s form was hit and miss. On his day he could mark the best forwards the division had to offer out of the game… on other days, he was dreadful.

The end was nigh for Ifil during Maurice Malpas’ disastrious tenure as the big defender lost form and eventually his place. He never really recovered after that.

Ifil played under Andy King, Iffy Onuora, Dennis Wise, Ady Williams, Paul Sturrock, David Byrne, Maurice Malpas and Danny Wilson during his stint in Wiltshire!

He should make his home debut against Celtic this weekend… Not a bad way to get started in the SPL!

Jerel ‘The Beast’ Ifil played 231 times for Swindon Town in all competitions, scoring 5 goals. For this he deserves respect and Vital Swindon Town would like to wish him all the very best at Aberdeen and hopes he does the business for them… and earns that call-up to the St. Lucia squad!
