GROUND REVIEW: Histon

After our embarrassing FA Cup first round defeat to non league side Histon, we take a look at their home the Glassworld Stadium and give our views.

Atmosphere – 4/10

As the ground is very small it is hard to create any sort of noise. You could tell the Histon fans were giving it a shot though as they were bouncing up and down in the home end. They may be a small club but they have very passionate fans.

View – 6/10

There isn’t much of an incline at the Glassworld Stadium so it is hard to get a decent view. The terracing behind the goal is about 4 rows deep and although you are close to the pitch it is difficult to see what is happening down the other end. The best bet for this ground is probably seating along the side of the pitch.

Stewarding – 8/10

All the stewards were very friendly. Interestingly enough fans were allowed to smoke in the ground in certain areas. Only Football League stadiums have a full non-smoking ban.

Food – 6/10

Ever been to a burger van after a night out? Well the Glassworld Stadium is served by one of these. The sausages looked under cooked but the burgers were fine. You could get a Bacon and Egg bap but there were no eggs which was somewhat disappointing. To get to the food stalls you actually leave the ground and queue in the car park in a cordoned off area. I didn’t see any pies on the menu.

Getting In and out – 10/10

This was very easy indeed. The gates are well and clearly marked and after the match the police closed the road to allow supporters to get to their cars without being ran over on the main road. Very efficient and the police and Histon F.C. have clearly sussed out how to make things as easy as possible for supporters.

Overall

Going into the game we thought the ground would be an absolute dive and that the facilities would be minimal. For a club Histon’s size the ground is not bad at all. Pictures online are out of date and don’t really do it any justice. The terracing stretches all across the away end and seating is all the way down the side of the pitch on both sides of the ground. All areas of the ground are covered as well which came as a surprise. The ground is certified for League 2. Nice ground for a nice little club who have some incredibly nice fans.
