Swindon Town are hopeful of retaining the services of Jonathan Douglas for the 2011/12 campaign.

Douglas was a major success during his first season and this was acknowledged when he scooped all the major end of season awards last year.

However, the last year was tough for Dougie but he stated that he and his family had settled and Dougie was interested in staying.

The club decided against triggering a clause in Douglas’ contract to extend his current deal but are keen on renegotiating.

Interim chairman Jeremy Wray told the Advertisier that he had been in talks with Douglas’ agent during the past few weeks as the former Ireland international had been on holiday. Wray confirmed that negotiations were ongoing and that he was ‘confident he will be here for the new season.’

In a recent poll Vital Swindon asked Town fans if they wanted to see Douglas remain at the club. The overwhelming majority wants Dougie to stay with 72% votes while 20% wanted him out.
