Blackburn and Aston Villa both played a double bill this week, and Villa will definitely be the happier of the two. Blackburn had a disappointing draw with Fulham on the weekend as Villa trounced Middlesbrough. Then last night when the two teams met each other Villa came out on top with a substantial 4-0 win over Rovers.

Congratulations to Mandy Markey whose team ‘Stans Ardvaaks’ defied all odds to score a massive 176 points this month. The score was helped entirely by packing Villa and Blackburn players into the team for this last week. Mandy even managed to get five Villa defenders. Using Zat Knight’s status as a Fulham player to gain an extra two clean sheets!

Here is a list of the players who lit up Vital Fantasy Football this month:

Goalkeepers: Aston Villa’s double header and excellent defence ensured Scott Carson took top honours this month. Three clean sheets and an assist showed that he does have the potential to wear the England number one shirt again. Carson managed 21 Vital points this month. Right on his heels was Liverpool’s Jose Reina who only played three games against Carson’s four, and also managed three clean sheets and an assist to score 20 Vital points.

Defenders: Again this is dominated by Villa players. Martin Laursen is keeping his strike rate high with another goal against Derby. Laursen scored 24 Vital points this month. He is yet to be booked this season as well and is a bargain at £3.5m! His compatriot Olof Mellberg scored against Middlesbrough to go with three clean sheets and earn himself 23 Vital points.

Midfielders: Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard topped the midfielder list chipping in with two goals, two assists and three clean sheets. He also tops the overall scoring for the month with 25 Vital points. Tim Cahill is back for Everton and has been in fine form, scoring three goals to take his monthly total to 24 Vital points.

Strikers: It is two Villa players topping the striker list this month. Ashley Young has hit a rich vein of form, scoring goals and creating key contributions to earn 20 Vital points this month. His team mate Gabi Agbonlahor has gone from strength to strength and is aiming for a spot in the next full England squad. Two goals and two assists scored Gabi 19 Vital points.

The double header for Villa and Blackburn proved fundamental in getting the biggest score this week. So take note that Arsenal and Newcastle are playing a double fixture this coming week. Use your 20 allotted transfers with this in mind to maximise your team’s scoring potential!
