Swindon Town`s six figure bid for Gillingham midfielder Luke Rooney has been rejected by Gillingham.

Gillingham are keen to ink the youngster to a new contract and are reluctant to let the starlet leave the club.

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler said he and his chairman were livid that Swindon Town made news of the bid public which probably played a part in the bid being turned down.

Rooney is a free agent in the Summer so Gillingham may be shooting themselves in the foot by not accepting a fee from Swindon Town now as he may not agree a new deal with the Kent outfit and walk away for nothing in the Summer.

It is unknown if Town will return with a better offer although the Swindon Advertiser this morning is stating they will turn their attention elsewhere.
