Swindon Town move within 3 points of the top of League Two after a 1-0 against a Macclesfield side who looked to go on all out defence this afternoon at the County Ground.

The first half was incredibly boring with Town seeing plenty of the ball. Macclesfield put 11 men behind the ball to defend but it did seem to work.

It looked as if Swindon were never going to score until Luke Rooney, who was making his debut for Swindon after signing from Gillingham in the week, crossed for Paul Benson who headed the ball in to give Swindon a hard earned 1-0 win.

Town could have had a second when they were awarded a penalty when Macclesfield’s Nat Brown was red carded for pushing Aden Flint. Matt Ritchie stepped up and the ball is yet to land. An awful penalty. Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio later said he wanted someone else to take the penalty but wouldn’t say who.

Swindon will now head to the King Power Stadium next week to take on Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
