ELEVEN have left the club… count them 1,2,3… ELEVEN! In what has been a remarkable summer exodus that has so far seen ten first team players leave.
Observing the internet forums in recent days has seen a sudden rise in panic from the Town supporters. However, Paolo Di Canio has issued of calming message to Town fans of the official Swindon website.
Di Canio stated:
‘I want to tell the people don’t be worried, relax! I know that as a supporter because I used to be a supporter and always wanted to know and have the name in front of me to celebrate or to feel more comfortable… Will will definitely be a strong team.’

Whilst most of the outgoings would not cause too much consternation in the Don Rogers Stand (lets face it, if Pericard and Dossevi had reappeared in the squad this season we would have questioned the clubs sanity) there is most definitely right now cause for concern among the Town faithful.
The loss of two players most of us would have welcomed back next season, LJF and “Jaypee” has got a lot of us wondering if the revolution route is the right one. With Douglas and Timlin still not confirmed (and, in Timlin’s case) seeming to take longer to decide between Sarfend and Swindon as my wife takes to decide what shoes to wear on a night out, the boat may not be rocking, just yet, but its definitely causing a few to rub their tummies and yearn for solid ground.
The Benyon case is a fiasco, on any level. With the club not even attempting to explain why its such a good idea to loan out a player we paid money for less than 6 months ago, and who has hardly been given a chance to impress, but has the perfect credentials on his CV to suggest he will be a big player in League 2, is beyond most of our understanding.
Now the club is publicly talking about signing a 32 year old Italian who has publicly said he doesnt want to leave Italy, one has to be wondering whats next.
Our manager spending more time in Italy than he is in UK is pretty much cancelling out any chance of our picking up most of the UK-based players on the released list, and currently sitting at home waiting for a chance to get gainful employment next season.
PdC has missed out on the honeymoon period by spending it pretty much exclusively in Italy. Now he is (temporarily I hear) back at CG for a few days, before once again heading home for a few days, he HAS to start lifting the fog surrounding the squad very soon.
we have faith, and always will – but we need that faith to be backed up by more than the two signings announced so far.
Great post Dr. It seems that todays press conference was botched. There’s no way that they would have called the media in for a chat and to confirm that Timlin had signed, right!?! I sometimes get the impression that Swindon punch above their weight in the transfer market, it can be a good thing, but it must surely explain how we seem to always miss out on a player at latter stages of negotiations. We will see, another addition tomorrow would soothe the worried minds of fans… hopefully.
