One Swindon Town defeat and the pessimists come out in full force slating Maurice Malpas and calling for Sam Parkin to return to the County Ground.
In typical Swindon Town fashion Town play well against the good teams and poorly against the bad teams. On paper Swindon Town should have battered Cheltenham Town whoa re the favourites to fall through the trap door to League 2 at the end of the season.
After Town`s 2-0 loss on Saturday some fans were calling for the managers` head already. The ones to blame are the players. Not the manager. Malpas fielded the same side who played exceptionally against QPR in the week, he can`t be faulted for thinking that same team would put on another good show.
Reports indicate that Swindon dominated the match however our defence let us down. Malpas was well aware that our defence was not fantastic. He stated several times that it was an area for improvement and with Jerel Ifil, Patrick Kanyuka and Kevin Amankwaah all our through injury it was always going to be a big ask for the back 4.
Another silly suggestion making the rounds after the game was that the club should try and bring back Sam Parkin who has scored 2 goals in 3 games for League 2`s Luton Town. Goals aren`t a problem. You can score 5 goals in a game but if your defence cannot read the game and give away too many chances then scoring goals is not really going to help.
At the end of the day it was one game, Our away form was poor last season and so far this looks as if much of the same will happen this season, Malpas will be well aware that if Swindon are serious about a playoff push, they must get results away from home. Malpas stated this on the radio after the game.
Instead of getting on the players back, come out in full force Saturday and back the team to 3 points against Colchester United.
