SwindonTown striker Jonathan Obika has rejected the chance to extend his contract at the club.

Obika joined the club for a second time, this time permanently in 2014 and has gone on to become a lethal force in front of the goal.

Town chairman Lee Power stated they had attempted to sign the former Spurs man long term but rejected the offer.

Speaking on a BBC Radio Wiltshire call in, Power said, “We`ve asked Jon to sign a new deal and obviously Jon doesn`t want to which is his prerogative, not because he doesn`t like the club, but everyone has to realise these are humans and they`ve got families.”

“He realises that if he goes and has a good year next year, he walks away for nothing and can quadruple or treble his money.’

Obika scored 12 goals this season and 22 over his Swindon career.
