Plymouth Argyle Squad

In recent weeks Paul Sturrock has added Bradley Wright-Phillips, Benin international defender Réda Johnson and Iceland international Kári Árnason to his squad.

Welshman Carl Fletcher also joined this summer after a succesfull loan spell from Crystal Palace last season.

Last Result

Last season’s friendly ended in relative farce due to a communication breakdown between Maurice Malpas, who was under the impression that a strong side would be fielded by Plymouth, and former Swindon Town manager Paul Sturrock, who did not.

Instead, youth coach Mel Pejic brought his youth side to Swindon and were comfortably beaten by three goals to nil in front of a crowd of 2,325.

Substitute Ben Joyce scored a brace against his former club while Billy Paynter scored the third of the evening.

STFC XI: Peter Brezovan, Callum Kennedy, Hasney Aljofree, Pat Kanyuka, Jack Smith, Anthony McNamee, Michael Timlin, Lilian Nalis, Craig Easton, Barry Corr, Lee Peacock.

Subs Used: Nathan Thompson, Jerel Ifil, J-P McGovern, Michael Pook, Billy Paynter, Ben Joyce, Chris Allen, Sean Morrison, Jake Hyde, Will Evans and Phil Smith.

PAFC XI: Lloyd Saxton, Shane White, Jordan Trott, Sean Kinsella, Ashley Hodgkinson, Ryan Brett, Yala Bolasie, Brian McCaul, Dan Smith, Joe Mason, Damien McCrory.

Sub Used: Josh Grant.

Played for Both Clubs

In the current Swindon side Sean Morrison was a youth player for the Pilgrims and was brought to the club by David Byrne alongside fellow youngsters Ben Tozer (now Newcastle United) and Ben Joyce (now Torquay United).

The currently injured Hasney Aljofree enjoyed a 5 year spell at Home Park playing over 100 games.

In the Plymouth side only Rory Fallon has played for Swindon, scoring 21 goals in 75 games – including a superb overhead kick from outside the area against Bristol City in 2004.

Other players to play for both clubs include Nicky Hammond, Wayne O’Sullivan, Lilian Nalis, Sep Atterbury, Garry Nelson and Craig Taylor.

Wonder how Mr Sturrock will stitch us up this time …. his recommendation of MM was the best one to date … turning up last seasons friendly with the boys team was another … the list goes on.
As you can guess I lost a lot of respect for him.
