Former Swindon Town midfielder Matt Hewlett has been forced to retire due to a back injury.

Hewlett spent 5 seasons with Swindon after joining from local rivals Bristol Rovers and was part of the team that made the Division 2 (League One) playoffs three seasons ago.

Hewlett remained with the club until the end of the 2004/05 season before moving to Torquay United on a free transfer.

Speaking to the Torquay United official website Hewlett said,
‘I am disappointed at not having played many games for the Gulls and given the fans the chance to see the best of me,’

‘I would like to thank (chairman) Chris Roberts for everything he has done for me through what has been a tough time for me and my family.’

Vital Swindon Town wishes Matt Hewlett all the best in the future.
