Monkhouse – Get Over It

Former Swindon Town defender Andy Monkhouse has told the fans he was upset that he never wanted to leave Swindon, just a month after saying he wanted a permanent move to Hartlepool.

Monkhouse went on to explain that he never chose to leave Swindon and fell just short of saying the fans should have given him a huge standing ovation although he was only at Swindon 7 months and spent a good portion of that time injured.

‘I was a bit disappointed with the reception.’ Monkhouse said.

There is no doubt Monkhouse was a decent player whilst at Swindon but it appears that Monkhouse himself feels he was a main reason for the club currently being in second palce

‘I’ve always thought I’d done alright when I played for Swindon.

Monkhouse went on to explain he didn’t want to move although just a month ago he was quoted as saying he would like a move to Hartlepool on a permanent basis, this prior to being told if he wanted to go, he could go.

‘I didn’t ask for a move. I got told to go on loan, went on loan, did well and the club really said you can go if you want. I didn`t feel wanted at all. I feel wanted at Hartlepool and that’s why I went.’ onkhouse said.

‘I don’t see why I couldn’ have done it here but a new manager came in and didn`t fancy me.

‘It didn’t feel the same (after Dennis Wise).

Monkhouse tried to justify his self-serving celebration that did nothing more than wind the fans up after scoring the winner against his former club on Saturday.

He said: ‘It was a bit funny with the fans but I’m sure I’ve shut a few of them up now.

‘If they want to give me stick, why can’t I give it back?

‘There’s no problem on my behalf but I thought I would have got a better reception really.’

Please Andy Monkhouse, put your toys back in the pram and move on, what is the point of complaining about why the fans didn`t cheer you?

If we look at the facts, Swindon are second in the league and that is the case even though Monkhouse has not been in the team.

Most footballers would be reflecting on the goal that put them up with the league leaders as opposed to slating the fans that paid their wages for the 7 months you were here.

Fair play to him I say. He only said that he wanted to go because Sturrock obviusly didn’t rate him, just like Onibuje.

I said weeks ago that he would score in this game and he did. Ironic that the guy that replaced him in the team missed a sitter on Saturday.

If he was good in his time at Swindon, why did we let him go??

I am still annoyed that he has not brought in a striker. If we had a decent one, we would be clear top now. Instead we get a right-back (and a back-up one at that!!)

Huge standing ovation ???? – probably a lot that were there on Saturday missed the few games he was fit to play and didn’t know him anyway…I think he is getting a bit carried away now with his moment of glory. There’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance – and he has just stepped over that line. Agree with Wellsy up to a point we are lacking fire power up front, but also we didn’t want to panic buy some ‘donkey’ in that transfer window. I’m sure Paul S has plans.

monkhouse wanted to stay, I bet his agent had something to say about it….. transfer fee and signing on fee, not money related was it?

LUCYG: Where are Darlo in the league again? How big are your attendances? Aren’t Hartlepool your rivals? Why stick up for them? Thanks for teh 6 points this season!
