Former Swindon Town midfielder Ashan Holgate’s move to Macclesfield Town could be in doubt after Paul Ince resigned as manager.

Ince resigned from his post as manager at Moss Rose to become manager of Milton Keynes Dons this morning.

Holgate linked up with Ince at the January transfer deadline and it was believed that Holgate would be signing a contract with Ince`s Macclesfield Town prior to his departure to Milton Keynes. It was known that Holgate was in discussions with the League 2 side with the aim of signing a permanent deal.

Holgate impressed Ince and Macclesfield fans during his loan spell at Moss Rose.

Holgate was released by Paul Sturrock at the end of the 2006/07 League 2 promotion winning season at Swindon.
