Swindon Town youth star Alex Henshall is edging ever closer to the first team accoring to boss Danny Wilson.

The 15 year old has attracted interest from clubs such as Manchester United and Aston Villa during the season.

The youngster was even acknowledged by his country when he was given an England U16 debut as a sub against Wales – he impressed and even supplied the cross that saw Arsenal youngster Zak Ansah score the winning goal.

Henshall has made it on the subs bench twice thus far – the JPT win at Exeter City and the recent loss in the F.A. Cup at Fulham.

In fact in an interview with the Swindon Advertiser Wilson admitted that Henshall almost earned a debut at Craven Cottage. Wilson stated that ‘I was tempted to put young Alex on at the end, but I didn`t think it was quite right… He could have been the match winner, who knows?’

Wilson emphasised his preference of bringing in youth graduates and scholars into the first team set-up because as Wilson put it ‘that`s where our bread and butter comes from.’

The Town boss finished by selling the notion of playing lower league football ahead of the glamour of the top flight. Wilson commented that when ‘you`re sat on the bench at a Premier League club then you`ve got half a chance… So Alex is getting closer [to the Swindon team] yes, he`s getting closer without a doubt.’

Here’s hoping he can add something more to this already improving side.
