Former Swindon Town midfielder Grant Smith has been released by Bristol City.

Smith who left Town after the 2004/05 season to local rivals City, had failed to hold down a place since the departure of manager Brian Tinnion and current manager Gary Johnson has released Smith.

By releasing Smith he is free to find a club outside the transfer windows.

Smith had spent loan spells with Walsall and Barnsley but failed to secure a permanent move away from Ashton Gate.

Smith scored 10 goals during his final season at Swindon and quickly became a fan favourite. He soon became hated by the Town faithful as he chose to let his Dad do his contract negotiations through the media.
