FITTON: Billy No Bids

‘You know my attitude to this…” stated Swindon Town chairman, Andrew Fitton when talking to the Swindon Advertiser. Fitton went of by saying that transfer bids exist only ‘if someone has sent you a fax with a concrete offer.’

That sounds about right doesn’t it? Well, that’s not what Bristol Rovers have thus far done in their rumoured interest of Town top scorer Billy Paynter.

Paul Trollope is believed to be a fan of the Liverpudlian forward who has been in fine form alongside his new strike partner Charlie Austin.

However, Andrew Fitton is confused as to where these rumours emerge from, ‘I have not had one of those for Billy, or any of our players for that matter.’

Reassuring words as Danny Wilson looks to strengthen the Town squad in order to compete with the Play-Off pack right until the very end.

The rumour is that Rovers were looking to exploit the fact that Paynter is coming to the end of his current contract by submitting a bid of £100,000.

Typical isn’t it – he’s been at Swindon for a couple of years and hardly been prolific – now he’s scoring goals he is likely to leave!!

He’s not been prolific but he was key alongside Cox – last season Cox failed to score without Paynter on the pitch. Significant? Probably not. Selling now would be silly… The summer? He could be replaced but he’s worth a 2 year deal.
