Fallon Swansea Bound?

It appears the Rory Fallon transfer saga may finally be coming to a close. Many sources are stating that Swindon Town have accepted a bid from League One high flyers Swansea City for Rory Fallon who has scored 14 goals for the Robins this season.

Fallon who signed for Swindon from Barnsley has been the clubs top scorer this season, finding the back of the net 14 times. Fallon also sits in 4th among the highest scorers in League One. Fallon is best known for his ‘wondergoal’ against Bristol City at the end of the 2003/2004 season which cemented him as a fan favourite at the County Ground.

During the 2004/2005 season, Fallon was touted to replace 20 goal scorer Tommy Mooney along side Sam Parkin. After a slow start Fallon was relegated back to the bench. Later in the same season it appeared that then manager Andy King had given up on Fallon sending him on loan to Yeovil Town. Since coming back from Yeovil, Fallon has not looked back and has been scoring goals for fun.

Rumours from both Swindon Town and Swansea fans have stated that Fallon has been given permission to speak to Swansea and it is only a matter of time before the £300,000 deal taking Fallon to Swansea is finalised. Nottingham Forest tabled a bid of £100,000 for the young striker, however this was turned down.

Fallon is in the final year of his contract and could leave for nothing in the summer. Swindon, who are well known for their financial problems would find it hard to turn down such an offer.

Before Christmas a local newspaper stated that Rory intended on signing a new 2 year contract keeping him at the County Ground, however Fallon has since said he will wait until the end of the season and then have a ‘very big decision to make’

Planning for the future Swindon Town signed Lee Peacock from Sheffield Wednesday to a 2 and a half year contract meaning the club have 2 senior strikers on their books for the 2006/2007 season, the other being Jamie Cureton.

Peacock would likely pair up with Cureton up front with Christian Roberts as a substitute when he returns from the Sporting Chance rehabilitation Centre.
