Fallon: It’s Up To The Club

After Saturday?s 4-2 win against Bournemouth one question remains in the minds of Swindon Town Fans. Will Rory Fallon still be at Swindon come the end of the transfer Window?

The New Zealander grabbed his 14th goal of the season in the 4-2 win over the Cherries on Saturday, at the County Ground and admitted that someone may make the club an offer it cannot refuse.

When asked about his future at Swindon Fallon commented, ?It?s very hard. People coming up and asking me, you guys (the media) asking me and at the end of the day it?s up to the club what they do with me.

?January?s still open so you never know. Someone might come in with some good money for the club, you never know. It?s up to the club whether they let me go or not. I?ve no decision unless they say ?do you want to go??

It has been reported that Swansea City, tabled a bid for Fallon in the region of £300,000 last week however it is still unclear whether this was accepted or not. Local newspapers have quoted that the bid was turned down however whispers around the club suggest otherwise and given the clubs well documented financial problems it would seem unrealistic that the club would turn down such a substantial sum of money for a player who prior to this season, was mainly a sub for the team.

It was reported back in December that Fallon intended to sign a new contract with Swindon Town after Christmas. It was just a case of crossing the T?s and dotting the I?s at the time and it seemed certain that Fallon would remain at the County Ground beyond this season, however Deputy Chairman Mark Devlin has since stated that the club have all but given up signing Fallon now and will have a big decision to make.

Fans appear to be divided on the issue as to whether the club should sell now or risk losing their star striker for nothing in the summer. Many point out that the club only has 3 senior strikers on its books now, Jamie Cureton, Lee Peacock and Christian Roberts. Christian Roberts is currently in rehabilitation for an alcohol addiction and is not available for selection, meaning young Ashan Holgate would have to step up. They also state that they would rather stay in League One for next season and lose Fallon. Other fans point out that if the club were offered £300,000 and with the CVA Payment coming up in 2007 the club should sell now and use some of the money to build the squad for next season. The same supporters also say that Fallon is being selfish and should go. Many people will be aware that should Fallon continue to score goals at the rate he is, he would likely get a nice signing on bonus in the summer, more than what he would get by re-signing with Town.
