Brevett, a former West Ham, Fulham and QPR defender, hung up his boots in May and is currently completing his coaching badges and it is hoped the appointment will soon be made.

The Robins are in the middle of a consortium takeover and it is expected Brevett’s new role will involve acting as a link between the club and the new owners, while also assisting with scouting duties.

‘Rufus seems a nice lad and has had a decent career in the game and I am sure he will have some useful contacts which can hopefully benefit the club,’ Town boss Sturrock told the club’s official website.

‘He is keen to learn and is taking his coaching badges.

‘His primary role is to provide the contact between myself and the new owners.

‘If I need a quick decision to be made then I can get in touch with him and he can facilitate that.’

In other news, former Wolves and Bristol City keeper Mike Stowell will be the clubs new goalkeeping coach, much to the delight of Paul Sturrock.
