We all know how it goes.

A lazy journalist at a national newspaper takes a look at the lower league football statistics. The journalist needs a story and notices that this young player has enjoyed a good run of scoring goals.

So the said journalist decides to link him to another club in order to fill column inches.

This week was the turn of Charlie Austin who was linked to Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Ipswich Town.

Talking to the local press, Danny Wilson was quick to end this speculation. ‘He`s the flavour of the month at the moment… Obviously there`s nothing in it whatsoever… It`s just a fabricated article in the paper.’

Charlie Austin is cup-tied for todays clash at Fulham and could be replaced by Danny Ward who has been given to play by his parent club Bolton Wanderers. Alan Sheehan is also available (he played at Wrexham in the previous round) while Alex Revell is not allowed to play.

Early days all round on Charlie – what a start though – could not have been better – but don’t forget the part Billy P has played in this.

Billy Paynter has been crucial. Long may their partnership continue. We’ll miss Austin today but hopefully Danny Ward has a blinder (if he plays).
