Trio Offered Deals

First we were told that talks with Billy Paynter were ongoing and then we got the great news that Charlie Austin had signed a new deal with the club.

Now, Danny Wilson’s bid to keep his key players has now gone into full swing as he confirmed that three other players were considering contract offers from the club.

Jon-Paul McGovern

Wilson indicated that the midfielder had been offered terms and this has now been confirmed.

McGovern has indicated that he is more than willing to look at the offer Town presents to him and also confirmed that their were bids for him before the transfer window closed.

The Scotsman has been arguably Town’s most improved player this season.

Kevin Amankwaah

A player who took a while to win over the Town faithful. Amankwaah rarely looked comfortable under Maurice Malpas but has thrived under Wilson – who was also his manager at Bristol City. It is quite possible that Wilson’s appointment saved the defenders career at the County Ground.

Anyway, since then he’s looked good and fully deserves a contract offer.

Phil Smith

I’m really happy about this one. Smith has barely featured this season due to David Lucas’ decent performances.

Smith clearly appreciates that he remains in an envious position as a professional footballer. He’s not complained and he’s also praised Town goalkeeping coach George Wood’s work since arriving in the summer.
