Swindon Town set to bring back the famous Swindon Hooter on Friday!

Yes, Swindon Town FC along with Graham Mack and BBC Wiltshire are set to bring back the famous hooter that used to bellow from the Swindon Railway Works until 1986 when the famous hooter sounded for the last time as the railway works was shut.

The hooter has not been used since the railway works was redeveloped into a outlet shopping centre and the GWR Steam Museum.

BBC Wiltshire are set to have the hooter bellow across town again on Friday at 8:15am.

Due to legal red tape the actual hooter itself cannot be used as there is no way of powering it up as The Beeb are not allowed to cut the pipes.

However BBC Wiltshire have had another idea and want the beautiful droning noise to bellow across town once more. Instead of using the actual hooter they are getting 18 20 thousand watt speakers the size of Vauxall Corsa`s to play a recording of the old hooter to echo across Town.

Swindon Town FC will be joining BBC Wiltshire to get the noise echoing across town by playing the noise of the hooter over the County Ground PA System on Friday.

Swindon is proud of it`s railway heritage and this is just one more way of Swindon Town FC connecting with the community it represents.
