Swindon Town Probe Into Violence

Swindon Town Football Club have began an investigation into the violence that took place between Swindon Town ‘fans’ and Bristol Rovers ‘fans’ this weekend.

It is unknown which set of supporters started the violence although the official website states that supporters from the Bristol Rovers side started ripping up seats and throwing them at the Swindon Town supporters who were close by in the Arkells Stand.

The club has stated that the blame lies with both sets of supporters and they are liasing with the police and using CCTV footage to identify any troublemakers at the match.

Swindon Town FC told the BBC website that is it taking the matter very seriously and will take action against anyone found to be involved in the fracas at the County Ground.

Towards the 90th minute of the Swindon Town/Bristol Rovers match the Rovers supporters on the Stratton Bank charged towards the Swindon Town fans in the Arkells Stand and started launching debris at fans in the stand.

Large pieces of white plastic were thrown between both sets of fans, which were soon identifed as seats. There were about 30 seats torn up or destroyed in the violence. Swindon Town FC had already stated that a pregnant women had to be escorted from the ground due to stress.

After the match windows were smashed on the Winners Lounge supporters bar that only allows home fans entry.

There were many problems at the rail station as Millwall fans returned from their match against Bristol City.The police were working hard in Swindon Town centre trying to move on the Bristol Rovers supporters past 8pm on Saturday evening before Christmas Parties were disrupted by these mindless individuals.

The events of the final few minutes and the aftermath outside the County Ground, put a damper on what was a great football match.

Swindon Town manager Paul Sturrock has noted that he hopes to see the “fans” involved in the riots at the County Ground yesterday are dealt with accordingly.
