Swindon Face Midfield Crisis

Swindon Town Manager Paul Sturrock has hinted at signing one or more players on loan during his daily address to the fans through the club’s official website.

Swindon Town face an injury crisis in midfield with injuries to Paul Evans and Aaron Brown. Brown is expected to return to training this week whilst Evans is awaiting results from a scan on his troublesome knee.

Andy Monkhouse who was on the bench at Torquay will likely start the Bury match on the bench also.

Michael Pook will not be available due to suspension, for picking up his 5th yellow card of the season against Torquay on Saturday.

Sturrock was expected to bring in a striker to help Town’s scoring woes, however due to the injuries and suspensions in midfield, Sturrock’s attention may have to shift to filling the void’s left in midfield.

Speaking to The official Website Sturrock said, ‘The deadline for loans comes around this Thursday at 12pm and I am hoping to bring one, two or possibly even three players in before then. The injuries in the midfield area may force my hand to that position because we only have two fit central midfielders. The search goes on and we will continue are efforts to add to the squad.’

Sturrock also hinted that other clubs have been sniffing around, attempting to take a couple of Town players on loan.

Sturrock is currently assessing the current squad and will make decisions shortly on a few of the players future roles at Swindon.

‘I have had a few calls from other managers about the possibility of taking a few of our players. However, most of the enquiries have been for players who are key to what we are trying to achieve here so they won’t be leaving us, although there is some room for manoeuvre in other areas of the squad.’ Sturrock finished.

It is expected that Fola Onibuje will return to Swindon Town at the end of his loan period now that Brentford manager Leroy Resenior has been sacked. It was expected that Brentford would sort out a permanent deal for Onibuje, but with Leroy’s departure these plans may now be scrapped.
