Former Swindon Town goalkeeper Rhys Evans has joined Barry Corr, Craig Easton, Sofi Zaaboub and Blair Sturrock in joining Southend United.

The difference being that Rhys Evans has yet to play under Paul Sturrock as he left Swindon to join Blackpool months before Sturrock replaced Dennis Wise at the County Ground.

Evans looks set to replace another Swindon native and former Town goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall as the Shrimpers number 1. Mildenhall recently linked up with Millwall.

Former England Under-21 international, Rhys Evans started his career with Chelsea where he spent time on loan with Bristol Rovers, Queens Park Rangers and Leyton Orient before joining Swindon in 2003 on a Free Transfer.

He made over 100 appearances for Swindon before turning down a new deal offered by Dennis Wise to join Blackpool.

The move north did not work out and since leaving Bloomfield Road Evans has played for Millwall, Bradford City and Bristol Rovers where he was released by Paul Trollope this summer.
