Swindon Town chairman Andrew Fitton has stressed the importance of council approval before the club start the major stages of redeveloping the County Ground.

Talking to the Swindon Advertiser, Fitton stated that ‘if we really got going quickly we could get a planning application in within a couple of months, and if we did that then technically we could start work in May – although that is not the objective.’

However, Fitton stressed that such pacey progress is unlikely due to Swindon Borough Council having ‘to make some pretty big decisions about helping us to do it, and that will be something which comes out over the next two or three weeks’

Earlier this week Fitton confirmed that the plan for the Town End to be ‘developed first and then by the time it is finished it will have a consistent look with a roof the same as the Reebok Stadium.’
