Maurice Malpas was delighted to see his side secure a 2-1 win over Northampton on Tuesday, a win that ended a terrible run of home form.

The Swindon manager guided his troops to their first win at the County Ground since 9th August, as two second half goals were enough to do this and this has earned the players his praise: ‘The players have worked really hard and bounced back tonight, I’m really delighted,’ Malpas told the Western Daily Press. ‘They dug in when they had to and after scoring that first goal you could see the pressure come off them.

‘I think we were a bit jittery because of what has happened in the past but the result was all that mattered tonight, not the performance.’

Malpas did feel that Swindon ‘keeper Peter Brezovan was maybe fortunate not be be shown a red card when it looked like he brought down Ryan Gilligan, and admitted his conern, adding: ‘I admit it was a concern and I thought he was off. I’d like to see that again maybe that was the break we needed.

‘We got a bit of luck tonight but one swallow doesn’t make a summer and we need to get back to an even keel tomorrow and start preparing for Saturday.’

How pleased are you to see this run of defeats end, and do you also agree with Maurice Malpas’ thoughts?
