Former Swindon Town manager Mark Cooper has turned down the opportunity to manage Notts County to become manager of Vanarama National League side Forest Green Rovers.

Cooper joins a side on the brink of League Football for the first time in it’s history after winning the chance to play Grimsby Town in the playoff final on Sunday.

Speaking to the media following the appointment, Cooper said, “I`m excited to be joining a club with a clear aim and strategy on where it wants to go and how it wants to get there.

“There are not many opportunities to join a club that has that foresight – a lot of clubs are run day to day and don`t plan for the future.

“These clubs may be bigger clubs in stature, but this is a big club in the way it is looking forward.”

Forest Green Interim manager Scott Bartlett will lead the team out at Wembley with Cooper in the stands however he will cast an eye over his players with a view to having an idea who he wants on the team next season.

Town will likely be reunited with Cooper in the Summer as they take part in their annual pre-season friendly against Forest Green Rovers.
