Caretaker Manager David Byrne will become Town’s number 2 this week as Maurice Malpas is named manager of Swindon Town. Byrne looks forward to the future.

Byrne who originally ruled himself out of the running for the Swindon job did well and leaves the hot seat with 6 games unbeaten.

Byrne will pass his wisdom and experiences onto Maurice Malpas who is expected to be named new Swindon Town manager on Monday.

Speaking to the media after Swindon’s 2-2 draw with Walsall, Byrne said’It has been a magnificent ride for me and an experience that nobody can take away from me. My ambition is to be a manager one day, but at the moment I am delighted to be assisting Maurice as his number two.’

Many Town fans did not want Byrne to get the Swindon job full time with memories of the shambles that was Iffy Onuora still spinning in their heads.

Byrne has managed to win over the ‘punters’ as he calls the fans and many fans are glad he is staying on at the club now to assist Malpas.
