Danny Wilson has brought in former Arsenal and Crystal Palace shotstopper George Wood to Swindon as the clubs new goalkeeping coach.
The 56 year old arrives from Wilson’s former club Hartlepool United where he held the same position. He worked as a coach for Cardiff City before that.
Wood enjoyed a good professional career notching over one hundred league appearances for Blackpool (117), Everton (103) and Crystal Palace (192) alongside stints with East Stirling, Arsenal, Cardiff City and Hereford United before going into the League of Wales with Inter Cardiff.
Wood was also capped 4 times for Scotland and was back-up for Alan Rough at the 1982 World Cup Finals in Spain.

A word of warning about this guy, he was brought to us by Wilson and the pair of them were directly responsible for signing 2 of the worst keepers I’ve ever seen. Plus the total lack of improvement from the keepers over their 2 year stay here would suggest he’s not a great coach either.
Yeah, we blamed our old goalkeeping coach for Phil Smith and Peter Brezovan’s ‘demise’ too. I’d argue that Brezovan was highly overrated post-injury. Phil Smith is alright but didn’t benefit from Sturrock or Malpas. Hartlepool had The Greek and Jim Provett, that was a decent duo – I can’t believe JP is now at Gateshead (he once looked decent)
The whole thing with Provett was that we wanted to keep him but he wanted first team football and Dimi was clear #1 at the time. He kept stalling on the contract offer so the club withdrew it. He could easily hold his own in League Two but Gateshead’s a good little club, close to his home.
