After announcing the signing of Andy Monkhouse, Manager Dennis Wise has his eyes set on four to six new players.

Speaking to Swindon Town’s official site Chief Executive Mark Devlin explained, ‘There will be around five or six trialists up at training next week, not only goalkeepers but outfield. There will be some Dutch trialists arriving that we are looking at, and both of those could potentially be exciting.’

‘At this stage I think Dennis is looking to add four to six players to the squad. Let’s not forget that we also have Lukas Jutkiewicz and Andy Caton who will be coming into the first team picture, as well as the other four from the youth team.’

Devlin also revealed that the club are looking to bring in a player from a club two divisions higher. ‘Loan players are another option that we will be looking at. In terms of long-term loans there is certainly one player that Dennis has spoken to me about, which would be a season-long loan from a club in the Championship’

One of the rumoured players on trial is Bristol City goalkeeper Steve Phillips, whose agent has been intouch with the club, to see if Town will offer him a contract.

That’player from a club two divisons higher’ is intriguing. Nigel Worthington has said that our ‘keeper, Joe Lewis, can go out on a season-long loan. You will have a star there if I am right. 6’5″, England under-17’s. He is still only 19, and has only made our subs bench, but he has played in the reserves and has been seen warming up. For STFC’s sake, I hope I am right if you fail to get ‘Flapper’ Marshall.

I hope this link works here.
    Joe Lewis

Not sure if a long term is the best thing, no matter how good he is. There is always the thought he may be recalled at a drop of a hat, unless there is some contract agreement against that situation.

thats right we dont want a loan keeper we want a signing , phillips would be good . The higher division signing will probably be a millwall youth player .

I see where you are coming from. Worthington is the genuine Loan Arranger! But he has a stinking attitude towards yoof! Because Green is injured he is lookng for a loan replacement while letting Joe out on loan. The typical Irish logic that makes him so unpopular here; just as he was at Blackpool. I’d swap him for Wisey…

I would prefer our own players as much as poss than having in lona players.

loan players r a mistake they r not committed to the club and show no hunger to change up a gear and grind out a result , this is when you let in silly goals and make stupid mistakes . I think andy caton will be our new hero this season .

  • red_gilly says:

personally I don’t think Caton will be our hero, I can’t imagine him getting us enough goals to be honest. It is also a lot of pressure to put on him, I would like to see a proven scorer on the pitch.

I liked the look of that Jutkiewicz, he looked strong and powerful, and certainly seem to rattle the opposition. Andy Caton has been out for a long time and might struggle to pick up where he left off.
