Swindon Town could be ready to announce a loan deal for Chester City’s Ashley Westwood in the next 48 hours.

Westwood a former Manchester United trainee, made 21 appearances for City but has seen limited action due to a hamstring injury since arriving from Northampton Town in the summer.

City chairman Stephen Vaughan told the media last night, ‘Ashley has indicated that he would like to move to Swindon Town, so if the transaction is completed then we wish him well down there. We are still looking to bring players into the club on loan ourselves, and it is possible that a player from Swindon may be coming in the opposite direction.’

Westwood is 31 years old and would replace Ady Williams in defence whilst he recovers from a knee operation.

City manager Mark Wright could be willing to take Royce Brownlie in a swap deal as he looks to improve his strikeforce heading into the final 2 months of the season.

He’ll be a good signing – he has good experience – BUT WE NEED A STRIKER!!!

Heard that this is pretty much done deal and we may be loaning someone from you. I’ll be dissapointed to see him go though. When he’s been fit he’s been our best defender by some distance. Good luck to him though!
