In the latest interview with Nick Watkins in the Evening Advertiser today, the Swindon Town Chief-Executive has reitirated the boards desire to keep the club on the County Ground site for the long-term future of the club.

The future of the County Ground could rest of whether the board can secure a deal from converting the stadium from a leasehold to a freehold ownership.

Watkins has confirmed that talks with the Swindon Borough Council are ongoing. However, in todays financial climate Watkins also stated that the Swindon board ‘also have a responsibility to look at alternatives and to cost alternatives‘.

Would be great if we could get a freehold ownership of the ground. I think that shows the board of this club mean business. The things we would be able to then do are unbelievable. The club should remain at the heart of the community in any case. Let’s hope that Swindon Borough Council are happy to play ball now that Diamandis is not around!
