Swindon Town have cooled rumours that Danny Wilson is pursuing former Town youngster Ben Tozer.
Tozer was signed by Paul Sturrock from Plymouth Argyle in the Summer of 2007 alongside fellow Devoner Ben Joyce thanks to David Byrne’s link to the Argyle youth set-up.
Many were surprised to see Tozer’s name of the team sheet for the League Cup clash with Charlton Athletic in August 2007. He became a regular fixture in the first team set-up which sparked instant interest from bigger clubs.
He spent a few days of trial with Everton before returning back to Wiltshire and made his full league debut against Carlisle United in a dismal 3-0 loss in which the unfortunate Tozer was sent-off for dragging down the United forward when clear on goal. It proved to be his last match for Swindon as he signed a 4 and a half year deal with Newcastle United shortly afterwards.
His stay in the North East has failed to see Tozer truly progress and has only made one league outing for the Magpies which was an 87th minute substitute appearance against Doncaster Rovers this season.
It is believed that United manager Chris Hughton is keen to free up some wages and could even be willing to allow Tozer to leave Newcastle on a free transfer.
