Bristol City’s Matt Heywood and Grant Smith will not face their former team Swindon Town in Saturday’s Derby at Ashton Gate.

Heywood left the County Ground at the end of the season last year after a 5 year stay to join local rivals Bristol City.

Heywood has been our of actionBristol City’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford and has since had surgery on a knee ligament. Speaking to Bristol City’s official Site, City manager Gary Johnson said, ‘Matt is ahead of Scott (Murray) at this stage, but he will need a few games to regain full match fitness after such a long lay-off.’

‘We will probably arrange some practice matches for him to play in if we are involved in the play-offs, but we don’t want to risk any more problems by rushing him back.’

Heywood has been spotted at the County Ground quite often this season watching Swindon’s matches as opposed to Bristol City’s during his injury spell.

Scott Murray scored a controversial penalty against Swindon on 11 November at the County Ground where Swindon won 2-1 thanks to goals from Neale McDermott and Rory Fallon. Murray will not feature as well due to injury.

Grant Smith has returned to City after a loan spell at Walsall was cut short by a groin injury. Smith will not be fit for Saturday and will not feature either.
