Town Utterly Tonked at Gillingham

‘It couldn’t have got any worse, I’m totally gobsmacked’ said Danny Wilson to the press after his Swindon Town side were battered at Priestfield this afternoon.

One could argue that worse happened at Carrow Road but who cares about them when your team has just been destroyed.

Despite enduring a below par season last time round, we never suffered a beating like this. In fact we haven’t been given such a hiding since we travelled to Nottingham Forest on a February afternoon and conceded seven with only one in reply. So this hurts a fair bit.

I know that this is simply the first day of the season, that there are 45 games left… but this was 5-0!

Obviously the striker issue is something that needs to be addressed as soon as possible but I am among the many people who feels that this defence is an improvement from last seasons. It’s ealy days but this does not bode well.

I’m reading this and I’m thinking ‘is this over the top?’ Is it? Perhaps.

Either way, this is an atrocious start to the campaign and many fans will not venture to the County Ground if results like these on the cards.

Here’s hoping that this is simply a (very) bad day at the proverbial office!
