Dover Athletic forward Adam Birchall’s name is beginning to be mentioned as Swindon Town continue their search for a new centre forward.

Birchall, 26, has been in fine form for Dover during the last two seasons scoring 45 times in all competitions during the 2010/11 campaign (including 11 in the F.A. Cup).

The Maidstone born forward started his career with Arsenal where he failed to make a single appearance in two seasons as a professional. He did spent a couple of months on loan with Wycombe Wanderers in 2004.

Birchall joined Mansfield Town in 2005 but failed to hold down a first team place and later joined Barnet where he played close to 100 appearances in League Two.

Within the last 24 hours fellow League Two outfit Gillingham have had a bid emphatically turned down by Dover which was reported to be less than the sum that Newport County offered.
