Reading opposition fans forums and listening to radio phone-ins are a bit of a guilty pleasure for many people these days. Do they think the same way as we think?, what do they think about us?.
Most of the time you leave being irritated by comments made about your team – But you keep going back regardless.
The last couple of weeks have certainly been interesting for Swindon Town fans. It’s been remarkable, to the point that you question that it’s actually happening! I find myself just wanting to enjoy the individual result because wins against teams like Southampton and Leeds United are great regardless of team form.
After Southampton beat Carlisle United at Wembley last week, scores of Saints fans dialled Aunt Beeb to talk to DJ Spoony and Gab Marcotti to talk up their chances of catching the Play-Off pack – one was asked whether they could do it and the caller replied along the lines of ‘Why not? We’ve beaten all of them.’ Although this comment may not bother anyone but to me it sums up Swindon Town’s rise quite well – because that particular Saints fan seemed to forget that Swindon had beat them 1-0 twice… Both when they were new to League One and on the ropes and then again at St. Mary’s when they were winning on a regular basis with Barnard and Lambert scoring for fun.
Then there’s Leeds United… They beat Manchester United don’t you know! But Swindon Town quietly went about their business and beat them 3-0 twice – once when they were still buzzing from the Old Trafford win and then again at Elland Road when they simply had to get a result.
However, all you heard was LEEDS LOST! OH MY GOODNESS! OH THE HUMANITY! Let them stress and let Swindon capitalise on it.
Throughout the season managers and fans have talked of their frustration of not beating ‘a side like Swindon’… This naivity could see Swindon past the post ahead of the rest below Norwich City and long may that continue!

You deserve to go up if you keep this run going it will be automatic. You are at the moment the only team to have beaten us twice this season. Rovers have a chance later this month in what will be a 6 pointer for us both.
