Swindon Town have won promotion the Premier League following a dramatic 4-3 win this afternoon over Leicester City at Wembley Stadium……. 20 years ago today.

Town won promotion following a penalty by Paul Bodin which brought top flight football to Wiltshire for the only time in the clubs history.

Back then in 1993 promotion to the league was worth £2M to clubs where as if Swindon were to get promoted back into the Premier League, it would be worth over £100M.

It seems like an eternity ago, and it seems even more amazing now considering the gap between League One and the Premier League.

It’s amazing that today Town fans dream of promotion to the Championship and that any chance of Premier League football is just a dream. Town are unlikely to ever grace England’s elite but today is a day to remember Glenn Hoddle and his Wembley heroes, the last time Swindon Town were truly great.
