Below is the official announcement from the club.

Swindon Town FC would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to vote.

For the last two weeks you, the supporters of Swindon Town FC, have been voting their preferred choice of club badge. You will be pleased to know that your preferred choice of badge topped the poll.

Three alternative badges were designed and put to the public vote, based on the original ‘shield` badge that traditionally the team has worn, with the option to stay with the current badge that was introduced in time for the 1991/92 season also provided.

Obviously the decision to suggest a change was not going to be welcomed by everyone, but the overwhelming majority of those who voted (76%), agreed that after 16 years it is now time for a new badge.

Of the three alternative designs, one design, Option 3, soon became a firm favourite in the eyes of the majority of fans who voted for a change, with 68% of these fans voting for this badge.

Therefore, it has been decided that the club will have a new badge in place in time for the start of next season. Please open the attached file for a reminder of what the new badge will look like.

The preferred badge, Option 3, includes the club name, a robin (after the club’s nickname ‘The Robins’), a train (the rail industry being an important part of the Town’s heritage) a football, and re-introduces the town`s motto – ‘Salubritas et Industria’.

Why change the club badge?

The present club badge has used for the past 16 years and this design that was introduced when the club felt that it needed a ‘brand new’ and ‘fresh’ image, following a difficult period in it’s history following the issues of the late 80’s and a relegation. Although this change may have been refreshing at the time and served its purpose, it did not retain any of the heritage from the traditional club badge.

We feel now is an opportunity to reintroduce a design that will herald a return to something akin to the club’s traditional shield design and also the include the motto – ‘Salubritas et Industria’, as well as reinstating the heritage aspect, both of Club and Town. This also gives the club a solid mission statement, the motto translating to – ‘healthy and industrious’ which will be used across all facets of the club, from the football team, back room staff, fans, and also the community development team.
The club will now commission Lotto, who are manufacturing next season`s kit, to produce some sample replica shirts including the new badge.

As soon as these samples are delivered we will post images on the official website. We will also begin to re-stock the STFC superstore with updated merchandise, and will provide regular updates as and when this merchandise becomes available.

Thank you once again for your vote.

I’ve never liked the last effort of a club badge we had, this is fine and actually looks like a club badge and not some wierd shaped painted object…..

I think this badge, although different actually does reflect the clubs history. We won the league cup with this badge (a similar one anyway) and had good times under Lou Macari

Talk about a step backwards!!! Let’s take a trip back to the 80’s….

Why does Swindon always have to come back to the trains??? The railway works closed nearly 30 years ago!!!

The badge is naff….. at least the current one looks modern.

I think it will look cheap and tacky, preferred badge 2
