Swindon Town 3, Walsall 2

Swindon Town win their first league game in over two months to gain three vital points over Walsall at the County Ground however they never made it easy for themselves.

Town made 5 changes to the squad going into the game with Jamie Vincent making his long awaited return after being out 5 months with a knee injury, Chris Allen, Kevin Amankwaah and new signings Gordan Greer and Hal Robson-Kanu making their debuts for The Robins.

Town got off to the greatest start possible after Kevin Amankwaah slammed home Greer’s cross to give the home team a confidence building 1-0 lead after only 8 minutes.

Town would have most of the possession with new signing Robson-Kanu putting plenty of balls in the box for the strikers.

Town looked to have gone up 2-0 around the 15 minute mark after Robson-Kanu put a cross in that just evaded a lively Simon Cox.

Cox finally got back on the scoring sheet with a cracking goal on 29 minute where he chipped Walsall keeper Clayton Ince to make it 2 goals in 2 games for the former Reading man.

Town were cruising and as the teams head into the half time it was a 2-0 Town advantage with Walsall failing to get a shot on target.

Town headed out for the second half brimming with confidence. It wasn’t long until it was 3-0 against a poor Walsall side after Clayton Ince mishandled the ball outside the area and Billy Paynter slotted home and the route was on.

Jamie Vincent would leave the pitch for Town on 70 minutes after a man of the match performance to be replaced by Michael Timlin which almost became the turning point of the match.

For most of the game a boring Walsall side did absolutely nothing but on 75 minutes the Saddlers were back in it after a Jerel Ifil error allowed Jobo Ibehre to pounce on a mistake to make it 3-1 Swindon.

Just two minutes later it got worse at Troy Deeney took on Town keeper Peter Brezovan one on one and slammed the ball passed Brezovan whose defence had gone walk about bringing Walsall right back in the game making it 3-2.

It looked as if it would be 3-3 right at the end as Walsall had two corners and Town’s defence failed to clear either one of them after Peter Brezovan slipped up.

4 minutes of added time was called and it was a very nervy 4 minutes but Town manage to hold on to give them their first win in over 2 months in the league.
